Cambodia Roncalli College 2016

This is a private trip limited to Roncalli College Students, staff and parents only.

Thank you for your interest in visiting Cambodia & Vietnam with Roncalli College.   The trip program has a mix of international service, education and relaxation opportunities.

The trip begins in Vietnam where the team will explore Hanoi then enjoy 3 days (2 nights) on a junk cruise around Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Vietnam.   The team will finish their stay in Vietnam in Ho Chi Min City where they will learn about the impact of the Vietnam War on the Vietnamese people by visiting the War Museum and the Cu Chi Tunnels.

In Cambodia the team will assist with building 10 basic homes for the poor living in rural Cambodia.  This involves 2 intensive days building work, along with a compulsory orientation program beforehand in Phnom Penh which helps the team understand the recent history of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot.  Visits to the Killing Fields & Tuol Sleng (S21 Prison) are part of that.    No building experience is required and a minimum team size of 14 is required.

After building the team will have the opportunity to participate in another international service project.  This may involve working with a project that has rescued 72 street kids from Siem Reap.  The program would involve students being matched with former street kids, where the NZ students would spend 2 days living the the life of a Khmer student.   Alternatively we have links with a project that constructs sand water filters for wells that the students could visit and potentially be involved in.

The team will have a couple of tourism days in Siem Reap including visiting the 9th man made wonder of the world Angkor Wat.
